DG Digest: EPA Eyes Safer Disposal of Explosives, OSHA Updates Fire Extinguisher and Cadmium Rules

For many younger folks, spring break season has arrived, so if you live and work in an area that sees spring break tourism, be sure that your employees are aware of the potential for increased traffic and crowded streets. Delivery drivers and those who work out of the office or plant can be particularly affected. Safety first! The second to last week of March turned out to be fairly quiet in the regulatory world after a very busy previous week. Let’s look at the news:

EPA

The agency proposes to revise regulations that allow for the open burning and detonation of waste explosives. Because there may be safe alternatives available that capture and treat emissions prior to release, regulations would be revised to describe specified new procedures. See the NPRM here.

OSHA

Th agency published an ICR related to hydrostatic testing of portable fire extinguisher cylinders. Such testing is required at interval to ensure safety. See the ICR here.

A second ICR deals with the Cadmium standard in industry. Cadmium, a heavy metal, requires careful handling to ensure safety. See the ICR here.
