DG Digest: Proposed rulemaking from the CPSC regarding reducing required size of safety marks on consumer coin/button cell battery packaging

Here we are at the end of January! Whew! One more month of the worst weather to go. Hopefully, later this week, “Punxsutawney Phil” the famous groundhog in Pennsylvania will predict a quick end to winter.  Hang in there and stay safe! Here’s this week’s regulatory news:

CPSC

The Commission published a proposed rule (via submitted petition) that if adopted will amend its rule on button cell or coin battery packaging to allow for a smaller ‘‘Keep out of Reach’’ icon on the principal display panel for packages of button cell or coin batteries. The Commission invites written comments concerning this NPRM/Petition.  Submit comments by March 29, 2024. See details here:

The Commission published an ICR related to its standards for the safety of multi-purpose lighters. Such lighters are dangerous goods. See the ICR here:

USEPA

The agency announced the extension of the review period for Confidential Business Information (CBI) claims for the specific identify of all active chemical substances listed on the confidential portion of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Inventory submitted to the EPA under TSCA. EPA has determined that an extension of the statutory review period for the review of CBI claims under TSCA are necessary to allow the Agency to complete the required reviews under TSCA.  The review period is extended to February 19, 2025. FMCSA

The agency proposes to remove medical examiners (ME) from its National Registry who have failed to access their National Registry account using login.gov and have failed to update the profile information in their National Registry account as required. To avoid being removed from the National Registry, MEs to whom this notice applies (see list) must complete the corrective actions set forth in the notice on or before February 23. 2024.
