It’s mid-August and although the pandemic continues to dominate the news cycle, it’s a great time to remember to help protect the safety of employees during the heat of the summer. It’s the hottest time of the year in most of the country; make sure that workers remain mindful of their safety, and keep your eyes open for signs of heat stress and heat stroke among your staff. Be sure people take breaks, hydrate, and avoid overdoing it. Employees look to the HSE staff for guidance, so let’s be ready to help! Here’s the last week’s news:
PHMSA

U.S. EPA
The agency announced the availability of the final Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) risk evaluation of 1-Bromopropane (1-BP). The purpose of conducting risk evaluations under TSCA is to determine whether a chemical substance presents an unreasonable risk of injury to health or the environment under the conditions of use, including an unreasonable risk to a relevant potentially exposed or susceptible subpopulation, without consideration of costs or other non-risk factors. EPA has determined that specific conditions of use of 1-BP do present an unreasonable risk of injury to health. See the report here.
The agency extended the comment period for nominations to its Science Advisory Board for Chemicals or SACC. The SACC assists EPA with issues related to administration and rulemaking under the Toxic Substances Control Act. The new comment deadline for nomination is September 1st. See the notice here.
