DG Digest: UN ADR Wraps Up 15th Meeting of the Working Party on the Transport of Dangerous Goods

Spring arrived Saturday.  With it comes not only flowers but the hope of a looming end to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Many workplaces are assisting interested, eligible employees with finding vaccination availability.  Eligibility criteria varies across the country on a state-by-state basis; if your workplace has an assistance program, be sure you’re ready to answer questions from interested employees as to how to participate locally.  As HSE and regulatory professionals our community is often looked on as a source of responsible safety information, so let’s be ready to help.  It remains relatively quiet on the regulatory scene as the new US administration continues to work on getting its leadership in place; however, there were a few items of interest during the period.  Here’s the latest:

EPA

The agency published an information Collection Request (ICR) related to its Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) program fee payment structure.  Under the TSCA, manufacturers and importers of subject chemicals can be charged fees to recoup up to 25% of EPA’s program administration costs. The ICR outlines information reporting requirements under the program. See it here.

FMCSA

The agency announced an ICR that will collect information required by the Office of Registration (MC-RS) to process name changes, address changes, and reinstatements of operating authority for motor carriers, freight forwarders, and brokers. See the new ICR here.

UN ADR/RID/Model Regs

The UN’s Committee of Experts wrapped up its recent 15th Meeting of what it calls its “Working Party on the Transport of Dangerous Goods.”  The meetings are intended to explore new issues related to the dangerous goods programs that the UN administers and which eventually often end up as part of the harmonized regulations promulgated by individual countries.  For a summary of papers presented, click here.
