OUR PERSPECTIVE
- Technology doesn’t guarantee compliance. While attention (and budget) is often given to newer advancements like AI and blockchain or the larger, established tools like TMS, WMS and ERP, organizations cannot overlook compliance. Implementing an automation solution isn’t enough as many platforms lack the functionality to specifically address the DG shipping processes.
- Compliance must be integrated. Compliance impacts nearly every part of the supply chain. As new technologies emerge and are incorporated into supply chains, businesses must also evolve their compliance processes and systems to keep pace. It’s important to consider how your existing compliance processes will either enhance or hinder your other technology investments and look for ways to integrate compliance into other systems.
- Start with the end in mind. When evaluating and investing in technologies, organizations should begin by defining their overarching goal, whether it’s to streamline operations, enable faster shipping, mitigate risk, increase revenue or something else. For DG shippers, no matter the overarching goal, repeatable, reliable, safe and expedient DG shipping is sure to play a critical role. Only then can they implement the necessary compliance processes and systems to help achieve their goals.
