FMCSA Releases New Hazardous Materials Route Registry

hml14The United States Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) today published a notice containing the updated summary of route information in their Hazardous Materials Route Registry in the US Federal Register. This guide lists all designated and restricted road and highway routes for highway route controlled quantities (HRCQ) of Class 7 (radioactive) materials (RAM) (HRCQ/RAM) and non-radioactive hazardous materials (NRHMs) transportation. The notice also provides the limitations for using these routes. The registry update is based on information provided to the FMCSA by state and tribal government authorities as of January 31st, 2014. The new registry is effective immediately and supersedes the previous registry, which was put in place as long ago as December 4th, 2000. Shippers and carriers both may wish to review the new registry and determine what impact, if any, published changes may have for their logistics operations.
