The first week of August concludes with the COVID-19 virus rapidly surging again, account the prevalence of the new Delta variant. As HSE professionals let’s make sure we do all we can to help our fellow employees be as safe as they can be as the country continues to deal with this challenge. At the same time, much of the nation is moving into its hottest weather season. Let’s continue to be mindful of heat related illnesses and work to mitigate any risk of that in our workplaces. Here’s the latest regulatory news:
FMCSA
The agency requests that medical examiners (MEs) submit results of physical qualification examinations conducted during the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (National Registry) outage from December 1, 2017, through August 13, 2018. Medical examiners should submit the results from examinations conducted between December 1, 2017, and August 13, 2018, to the Agency by September 30, 2021. See the notice here.
OSHA
The agency issued an ICR related to its safety standards for electrical systems. The ICR relates to both the construction industry as well as general industry. See it here.
A second ICR relates to the Methylene Chloride Standard. This chemical is carefully regulated for US industry. See the ICR via this link.
A third and final ICR relates to the safety standards for slings. Slings are devices used for lifting and handling heavy loads and have significant safety requirements associated with their use. See the ICR below.
DHS
The agency is issuing technical, organizational, and conforming amendments to existing regulations relating to the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS). These technical amendments provide the public with more accurate and current regulatory information, but do not change the effect on the public of these regulations. These changes are necessary to correct errors, change addresses, update titles, and make other non-substantive amendments that improve the clarity of the CFR.
