DG Digest: On this May Day, NACOSH announces public meeting for May 31st, and PHMSA announces rule making for HM-219D

This edition of the DG Digest publishes on May Day. The first day of May is traditionally a day that celebrates workers and their rights. One big right? The right to work safely. As HSE and DG professionals, one of our primary reasons for being is to help ensure that safety is always top of mind and first in line in whatever our workplace does. Let’s take this May Day to recommit to our safety responsibilities. Meanwhile, here’s the week’s rather limited regulatory news:

OSHA

Speaking of safety: the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH) will meet Wednesday, May 31, 2023, in a hybrid format. Committee members will meet in person; the public is invited to participate either in person or virtually via WebEx. The NACOSH will meet from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., ET, Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Find more details here.

PHMSA

On March 3, 2023, PHMSA published a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM), entitled ‘‘Hazardous Materials: Adoption of Miscellaneous Petitions and Updating Regulatory Requirements (HM–219D),’’ proposing changes to update, clarify, improve the safety of, or streamline various regulatory requirements. PHMSA is extending the comment period for the rule. Comments to the HM–219D NPRM will now be due by June 16, 2023. See the details here.
