The leaves are falling fast now as we enter into the second month of autumn. Are your wintertime snow and ice clearance plans in place? Before too long, many parts of the country will be experiencing such weather, so if you haven’t quite finished your preparations, now’s a great time to do so. No one needs employees put at risk but uncleared snow or leaks into the warehouse because the drainage systems are clogged with the fallen leaves of autumn. Let’s be ready! Here’s the week’s regulatory news:
PHMSA
The agency published and ICR related to the development of written response plans dealing with the transport of flammable cryogenic liquids. Such liquids included many gases compressed and cooled to allow transport in tanks and can pose real risks in the event of a release, or damage to the tanks. See the ICR here.
FAA
The agency published a new safety alert (SAFO 24007). This SAFO alerts aircraft operators to safety concerns involving cargo shipments that may contain batteries, battery-powered devices, or analog or electronic timing devices in combination with flammable materials (e.g., flammable liquids, flammable solids, flammable gas). Find a link to the new SAFO here.
Transport Canada
The Ministry published a newly updated guidance document regarding the necessary components of a competency-based training program. The guidance does not change any regulation, but instead offers the Ministry’s take on how to comply with the existing rules. Find the new guidance here.
The Ministry also published guidance related to the transport of aqueous solutions of Class 3 flammable liquids. The guidance provides clarification to existing regulations rather than introducing new law. Find this guidance here.
